This article is for customers who received either a PAX A35 or PAX S300 PINpad terminal (for new or existing locations) and need to install it into the Value Add Center kiosk.
PAX A35 PINpad Installation
The following shows the various connections to the PAX A35 PINpad.
Below is a zoomed in photo of where the USB C power supply cable should be connected to the PINpad terminal's harness.
The other end should be plugged into a USB power adaptor, and the adaptor should be plugged into the power bar that provides power to all VAC components:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Some PINpad terminals will have a USB cable that provides power to the PINpad, as well as another USB cable that is used for communication purposes.
With our system, only the ethernet cable is used for communication between the PINpad terminal and the VAC kiosk, so ONLY the ethernet cable and the USB POWER cable should be connected.
Do NOT connect the USB data cable to the VAC control board's USB ports, and do NOT plug the USB power cable into the VAC control board's USB ports.
You should always use the power brick that came with the PINpad terminal to provide power to the PINpad terminal via it's USB power cable.
You can check Step 3, under the
PAX S300 section of this article, for more pictures showing the Ethernet cable connection you need to make.
Both the PAX A35 PINpads, and the PAX S300 PINpads will be connected to the VAC control board in the same manor.
After the PINpad's cables have been connected to the VAC, install the security screw into the PINpad terminal (pictured below)
Then tie up all the loose/unused cables to keep them out of the way
With both the Power and Ethernet cables connected, check the screen of the PINpad terminal to make sure it's receiving power.
If the screen is not powered ON, check to make sure that you are using the correct USB cable to provide power to the PINpad.
This is usually a separate USB C cable that needs to be plugged into the PINpad terminal's wiring harness:
Once the PINpad is powered ON, wait until it's finished booting up.
Once finished, the PINpad's display should be showing the following screen:
If your PINpad's display does not look like the one above, and instead you're seeing a screen that shows a bunch of different Android Apps
you will need to open the Payment Processors payment app, by clicking on the Paygistix app icon, to get the PINpad terminal working.
The PINpad may prompt you to accept an agreement if this is the first time the payment app is being opened:
If the PINpad terminal is now displaying the correct screen,
to figure out if the PINpad terminal is working correctly, check the Payment Status light on the VAC control board:
When the PINpad terminal is first connected to the VAC, this Payment Status light will be RED like in the above picture.
But once the PINpad has been powered ON, and is running the Payment App, this Payment Status light should turn GREEN within a few minutes.
It can sometimes take up to 10 minutes before the Payment App turns GREEN, so simply leave everything connected for 10 mins.
If after waiting 10 mins, the Payment Status light is still RED, if you've confirmed the PINpad is connected to the VAC correctly, and it's Paygistix app is running, get in touch with our support team.
PAX S300 PINpad Installation
Step 1: Remove stylus/pen that might be attached
It's held to the PINpad by a screw and some glue. You will want to apply some force to overcome the glue.
Step 2: Attach PINpad to the VAC's PINpad holder
Secure using four nuts as show below. For additional security, there's a bolt that should also be installed (shown below).
The bolt goes through the slot shown above and into this threaded hole:
Step 3: Connect power and Ethernet cables ONLY
The provided blue ethernet cable connects the PINpad terminal's RED ethernet port, and the other end will connect to the VAC by either:
1) Plugging directly into the VAC Control Board's AUX connector (if there's no white network switch).
This is the most common configuration, and the only configuration that is used on new VACs:
OR
2) the white network switch/router (if one is present in the VAC)
This is usually only done on VACs that were manufactured before 2020., and they will have a different style VAC Control Board (NOT black in colour):
Step 4: Check if PINpad needs activation
Check the PINpad display.
If it is displaying the payment processor's logo, then then PINpad is already activated and you're ready to take payments!
