Alliance: Quantum/Galaxy Touch

Alliance: Quantum/Galaxy Touch

This installation note covers Alliance's touch washers and dryers (Quantum Touch for Speed-Queen, Galaxy Touch for Huebsch).
The reader uses serial communication with these machines.

Currently, vend price configuration is done through the machine's setting - not through Laundroworks (Laundro Portal).

Required parts

  1. Card Reader Kit (Kit Part #: CR-10-1xx-00).
    The reader type is "
Generic Serial" you'll see this on the sticker on the back of the board itself:

  2. Reader Wiring harness - Part #: 02-06-32C
(this part # is harness Part #: 02-06-31 with harness adaptor 02-06-85 preconnected to it):

Installation

  1. Turn machine power OFF!

  2. Set the Machine Type and Machine Number using the DIP switches on the back of the card reader:

See DIP switch settings article for more info on how to setup the dip switches.
Before proceeding, you should assign numbers to each of the machines in the laundry room/building using the reader's Dip Switches on the back of the reader.

  3. Remove coin-drop, if present

  4. Connect the signal connector to the Front-End control board
    Notes
    Note: If doing a Hybrid Coin + Card installation;
see the Hybrid section below for information on potential differences in signal wire connections

  5. Connect the power connection to get power to the card reader

Option 1: 12Vdc plug on the washer/dryer Front-end control board

    Option 2: 24Vac transformer
Connect the 2-wire power connector to the 24Vac transformer inside the machine

    Examples below:

  6. Mount the card reader (see section below)

  7. Power on the machine

  8. Set the machine for serial communication (Card Mode) using the touch screen on the machine.

This is done through the Machine's System Menu on the touchscreen control. Before you can get into menu however, in case of washers, ensure that top lid is open. In case of dryers,  you will need to disconnect the white connectors:

To get into the System Menu, press and hold the top of the screen where you see the horizontal line. Once in the menu, follow the pro

Turn on the Card Reader and go down until you see Serial Payment System

Once you've confirmed that both the Card Reader setting and Serial Payment System are both enabled;
exit the machine settings menu, and save the changes, then power cycle the machine.

Notes
Note: in some cases, when power cycling the machine (after turning ON the above 2 settings), you may have to leave the machine unplugged for 2 full mins.
This will ensure that any capacitors storing electricity can fully discharge, then when plugging the machine back into power, it should switch into serial communication mode.

Configure Top-Off

If your Full Cycle time and price, is the same thing as Topoff time and price (i.e same cost to Start dryer as to add time), then set the Top-Off Status setting to Full Cycle Only

9.
Activate The Card Reader

Power On the machine. The reader display should say "Not Activated":

Simply place this location's Activation card onto the card reader for a few seconds.
This activates the reader and programs it with the customer and location ID information.
The reader should automatically connect to the wireless networked hosted by the Value Add Center kiosk (VAC01 specifically),
and will become visible on the Laundro Portal, once the reader passes it's Wireless test:

Hybrid Coin + Card Installation Notes

Aside from reader mounting, Hybrid Coin + Card installations are typically done the same way as Card Only installs.

However, in some cases (we've seen this issue with Softmount versions of these machines), when you enable the "Serial Payment System" setting through the machine's controls; this will automatically disable the machine's coin drop functionality.

Generally speaking, when installing in a Hybrid configuration, you'll need to confirm the "Coin", "Card Reader", and "Serial Payment System" settings are all ENABLED on the machine side:

However, if you test the machine, and only the Card Reader is working with these settings enabled (the coin drop stops working);
it means the specific version of your machine is disabling the coin drop functionality when Serial Payment System is enabled.

In these cases, to get the Hybrid configuration working, you will need to DISABLE the "Card Reader", and "Serial Payment System" settings on the machine (the "Coin" setting remains enabled), and use a Generic Relay card reader board in order to emulate the coin drop's payment signal.

To do this, you'll need to splice the reader's Signal wires (GREEN and WHITE), in series with the BLUE wire coming from the machine's coin drop:

Contact the Laundroworks Support team for help configuring the Generic Relay card reader, to operate in a Normally Closed fashion, for this type of Hybrid configuration.

Reader Mounting

If you're installing readers on Coin-op washers/dryers,
the reader should mount against the existing coin-drop plate (Card Only installs).

In some cases, you may need to drill a couple of small holes for the threaded-studs on the card reader's mounting plate.
The cable harness should fit through the existing slot for the coin drop.

HOWEVER, if you received the following reader mounting brackets:

Then no drilling should be required.
To install these readers, you'll completely remove the coin drop plate, and use the mounting bars to secure the reader to the machine.
Remove the coin drop plate, and reinstall just the trim piece; the reader then sits over it and is secured from the inside of the machine using the horizonal bars on the provided mounting bracket:

For Card Ready versions of these machines (Card Only installs),
the machine plate will already have holes that match the studs (3 or 4 studs) on our reader's mounting hardware:

These versions of machines will also NOT require any drilling to get the reader's mounted:

For Hybrid Coin + Card Installations,
you will receive a 3-Stud reader mounting plate, and custom holes will need to be drilled into the machine since the coin drop is not being removed.
You will receive the following mounting plate for Washers:

And the following mounting plate for Dryers:

Both Washer and Dryer reader mounting plates have the same 3 Stud layout,
however the Dryer mounting plate is designed so the Card reader itself can be installed/removed separate from it's mounting plate.

Pricing

Unlike for non-Touch models, vend pricing for touch models is entirely controller by the machine directly, or through Alliance network software.
Our card readers use Serial communication to stay in sync with the machine automatically, so once pricing is set on the machine side, the machine will update the card reader's pricing automatically.
