Wascomat: Gen5 and Gen6 washers
This installation note covers the old Gen5 and Gen6 washers. These are non-electronic, high voltage machines. The reader kit comes with a High Voltage Relay to control this timer. The reader is powered by a separate AC-DC power supply adapter (provided with the kit). The kit also contains a High Voltage sensor to determine whether the door is open or closed.
Parts
Reader (with Voltage Relay board ASSY-02-02-08)
High Voltage Relay (to start the Mechanical timer)
High Voltage Sensor box (to determine the whether door is open or closed)
Cable harness
12V Power supply adapter
Installation
It is CRITICAL that the high-voltage sensor, which senses the door open/close state, be installed correctly. Otherwise, if the door is open, the reader will still take money from the card and the vend will NOT be registered with the machine.
Before proceeding, you should assign numbers to each of the machines in the laundry room.
Set the machine type and number using the DIP switch on the reader's circuit board:
See DIP switch settings page to understand how to configure DIP switch positions to set the machine type (washer or dryer) and number.
Turn machine power OFF!
Remove the coin drop if present
Start signal
Simply connect the plug X121 to the mating plug on the cable harness
For older reader kits that don't have the mating plug, you will need to splice to the wires.
The output wires of the High Voltage relay should be connected to pins 5 and 6 on connector X21 on the machine's control board. There should be an existing wire harness connecting X21 to an empty connector X121. Simply splice the relay's output wires to these two wires. This is shown below

Note the the connection varies between Gen5, and Gen6
Gen 6 models
Splice the two High Voltage sensor wires across wires on pins 2 and 4 on connector X30.
Gen 5 Models
Find the large connector on the bottom of the timer. Use the 2 closest wires to the front of the washer, as below
Connect the AC side of the supplied power adapter to the machine. Unless you have an outlet directly behind the machine, you will need to cut-off the AC prong and expose the Hot and Neutral wires, which you will need to connect to the Hot and Neutral inside the machine.
Mount the reader to where the coin-drop would normally go
Activate the card reader using this location's Activation Card:

Troubleshooting
Below are problems commonly encountered during installation of readers on A-series Dexter machines. For more general reader troubleshooting, see

Issue
| Explanation and resolution
|
Reader always says Close Door to Start, even though the washer door is closed | This is a problem either with the High Voltage sensor, Or the connection to connector X30 on the machine.
Double check the connections to pin 2 and pin 4 and try swapping the High Voltage sensor from a working washer. |
