Alliance: Mechanical (SCxxMD2)
This article covers installation of readers on Alliance washers (Speed-Queen, Huebsch) with mechanical controls that are are accompanied by a power board. These typically have model numbers SCxxMD2 or HCxxMD2, where xx is the machine's capacity.
Required parts
- Reader (model CR-08-117-06)
- Cable harness
- High Voltage Sensor
Installation Steps
Step 1: Turn Machine Power Off
Step 2: Remove coin drop
Step 3: Number the reader using the DIP switch
Step 4: Power board
Locate the power board and the existing 3-pin connector (with all red wires) connecting to it. Note the position of pin 1 - it is the one with a small arrow marker on the connector.
Disconnect this 3-pin connector
Step 5: Connect cable harness
Connect the 3-pin connector from the supplied cable harness to the header from step 4. The white wire is pin 1
Step 6: High Voltage Sensor
The high voltage sensor will tell the reader whether the machine is running or not.
Splice the two wires from the High Voltage sensor to wires coming from Pin2 and Pin3 from connector J1 on the power board. Pin2 and Pin3 are interchangeable (since they carry AC voltage). Connect the other end of the High Voltage sensor to the mating connector on the cable harness.
Step 7: Mount the Reader and Activate with Activation Card
No drilling is required when mounting these readers.
To activate the new reader, place the stores activation card onto the reader:

Troubleshooting
Below are problems that are sometimes encountered with this machine. For more general reader troubleshooting, see
Reader Support Process
Issue
| Explanation and resolution
|
Reader display showing "BUSY" but machine not running | The problem is likely in one these three issues:
1)the High Voltage Sensor is not properly connected
2)there's a problem with the High Voltage Sensor.
3)there's a problem with the washing machine
4)there's a problem with the card reader
If this is a new installation....
Chances are it is issue #1, so double check the splicing to the two grey wires. You should also do a reader Swap with a reader/machine that IS presently working.
If this reader/machine was working before....
Then it is likely issue #2 or #3. Call into Laundroworks support for assistance. We can configure the reader to bypass the High Voltage Sensor to see if reader can start the machine.
|
Reader advances the mechanical timer too far when starting the machine; machine does not start | This might be related to the high voltage sensor. Call Laundroworks support. A technician should be able to bypass this sensor. |
